04. THE TREE OF RAIN WAITING
2023 April
Typography design and Installation
This is a two-month installation featuring a flat mirror device with elements of performance art. I put 13 different Chinese poems about rain on 13 silver mirror paper designed as ancient amulets that can summon rain. I hung up those patterns outside and waited for the rain. The green leaves and branches were all reflected on the mirror, and one would only notice the numerous patterns upon closer inspection. These patterns encompass the anticipation of rainwater and reflections on the relationship between nature and humanity.

Chinese Typography Design

In essence, this installation explores the relationship between human technology and nature, differences between the past and present, and the collision of new and old. Qingcheng Mountain is a place rich in rustic charm, natural beauty, and temples. It holds a profound connection between the old and the new, as well as people's longing for and devout wishes towards nature, all of which align with the central theme of my work. I hope to demonstrate through this installation that human creations and nature can coexist harmoniously by reflecting the original forms of nature's plants.
